Vieworks Unveils Digital Slide Scanner VISQUE DPS at USCAP 2025, Marking North American Debut
2025-03-24
BOSTON — Vieworks, a leading
provider of medical and industrial imaging solutions, announced it is
showcasing its VISQUE DPS (Digital Pathology System) at the USCAP Annual
Meeting 2025 in Boston. This marks the first unveiling of the slide scanner in
the North American market.
The company plans to expand its digital
pathology business to major markets, including the United States and Europe,
following initial adoption at major hospitals in Korea.
Slide scanners are essential devices for
digital pathology, enabling cancer diagnostics, clinical research, and tests
such as histopathology, liquid-based cytology, and immunopathology. Adoption of
digital pathology systems is growing rapidly in developed countries. Vieworks
began developing its prototype in 2021, secured domestic regulatory approval in
2023, and launched the enhanced VISQUE DPS earlier this year.
The VISQUE DPS is a high-speed
digital pathology scanner that reconstructs glass tissue slides into
high-resolution whole slide images (WSIs). It supports up to 510 slides at once
and generates 83 WSIs (15x15 mm) per hour, making it one of the fastest slide
scanners on the market. The system allows semi-permanent digital storage of
slides, enabling collaboration and telepathology without relying on traditional
microscopes.
The device features Vieworks’ proprietary
Realtime Extended Focus Mode, which uses its high-resolution camera to capture
three images at different focal planes in a single scan. The sharpest areas of
each image are combined into a single, highly focused WSI. This extends the
depth of focus by more than three times compared with conventional scanners,
without increasing scan time or file size. Technology is currently under patent
application in Korea.
“VISQUE DPS, Korea’s first domestically
developed digital pathology system, was successfully introduced at a major
hospital in December and has since attracted strong interest from other
institutions,” a Vieworks spokesperson said. “We plan to accelerate our
expansion into the global digital pathology market, aligning with trends in
personalized precision medicine and collaborative care.”
Vieworks worked closely with pathologists
and specialists at leading Korean hospitals to refine the product, conducting
extensive in-house validation to meet clinical needs. The company secured
manufacturing approval from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety in 2023.
USCAP (United States and Canadian Academy
of Pathology) is an international academic society that leads global pathology
research and education, holding annual academic and exhibition events.
